Our Harrisburg Chiropractor Uses Spinal Decompression to Alleviate Back Pain

Harrisburg chiropractor helps with spinal decompression.jpgDr. Skocik’s chiropractic care includes a variety of drug-free, non-invasive techniques that help the body heal itself. Along with gentle, precise spinal adjustments, massage therapy and acupressure, we also offer spinal decompression in Harrisburg. Our chiropractor's decompression treatments are especially helpful for people suffering severe back pain from bulging or herniated discs and in some cases, give patients an alternative to avoid back surgery.

Spinal Decompression: A Comfortable Treatment for Internal Healing

The key to chiropractic care is helping people by working their spines back into optimal alignment so that their spinal cord and nerves can work without painful interference. Sometimes even the cartilaginous discs between the vertebrae can be damaged when the bones are misaligned, particularly after a back injury. Herniated discs also pinch nerves, which causes severe pain that sometimes leads people to back surgery. Spinal decompression treatments, however, can non-invasively help to re-shape the discs and stimulate natural healing from within the discs themselves.

During a decompression treatment, our chiropractor securely straps the patient to a special, computer-guided table that takes the spine through a series of gentle traction stretches and rest sessions. The stretching creates a vacuum within the spine and the discs that relieves pressure from the nerves and reshapes the injured disc, bringing in a flow of fresh circulation and nutrients that helps with natural healing.

While decompression is not a stand-alone treatment, it is enormously helpful for many patients with severe lower backaches. Chiropractic care is about addressing all aspects of a patient’s health, meaning that we frequently incorporate adjustments and decompression with massage and other forms of physiotherapy. We tailor all treatments to directly address each patient’s specific healing needs.
